State aids businesses with conservation grants

As energy costs keep increasing for small business owners, the government has stepped up to help small businesses reduce electricity and fuel consumption. Last week, Governor Edward G. Rendell announced about 90 businesses will be receiving $521,000 to incorporate innovative technologies and improve energy efficiency and reduce pollution through the Small Business Advantage grant program, according to a press release. Five of the businesses are located in Lycoming County. They are: Norge Village Dry Cleaners, $7,500 for high efficiency shirt-finishing equipment; James Ely Insurance, $5,708 for a high efficiency boiler with zone controls to conserve energy; Thirty-Three East, $7,500 for a high-efficiency boiler with zone controls ; West Branch Tennis Club, $3,647 for a high-efficiency boiler with zone controls; Creekside Country Market, $4,825 for a high-efficiency heating and cooling system and Faxon Cleaners, $7,500 for a high efficiency boiler with zone controls.
